| Assignment description:
In this project, you will research and explore a master drawing as a resource for different approaches to mark making. This project can teach you to see, it can teach you about styles and techniques, and it can stimulate the imagination. Find a book from the library on an artist who inspires you for this project. (Some examples of artists to look at: Kathe Kollwitz, Vincent Van Gogh, Rembrandt van Rijn, Alberto Giacometti, Edgar Degas, Leonardo da Vinci, Peter Paul Rubens….) Choose a drawing, print, or painting from the artist you have chosen. Make a photocopy of the work of art to use as a reference and to hand in with your finished drawing. Before you begin the final drawing, practice the techniques and medium used in the master drawing in your sketchbook. (Practice their particular style and use of line-work, shading, and hatching. Then, draw the master drawing in its entirety, on a full sheet of Strathmore paper. Aim for the quality and sensitivity of effect comparable to that of the master drawing. |
